Starting the quest

Talk to the guard at the gate of the Sinclair Mansion, north of Seer's Village.

Agree to help find the murderer.

Initial Investigation

Enter the mansion and go to the easternmost room on the ground floor (the dining room/evidence room).

Pick up the Pungent pot.

Optionally: Pick up the Criminal's dagger and investigate the smashed window to get the Criminal's thread.

Gathering Information

Talk to one of the Gossips standing outside the mansion until they mention the Sinclairs buying poison.

Go south from the mansion, slightly east of the Seer's Village bank, and find the Poison Salesman.

Talk to the Poison Salesman. Ask about the sale to the Sinclair family.

Show the Pungent pot to the salesman. He will identify the smell as his poison and tell you he sold it to Anna, Bob, Carol, David, Elizabeth, and Frank.

Questioning the Suspects

Return to the Sinclair Mansion.

Speak to each of the six children (Anna, Bob, Carol, David, Elizabeth, Frank) located throughout the mansion.

Ask each one what they used their poison for.

Checking Alibis

Investigate the specific locations where each child claimed to use the poison:

Anna: Compost heap (outside, north-west)

Bob: Fountain (outside, centre)

Carol: Kitchen sink (ground floor, west side)

David: Beehive (outside, south-west)

Elizabeth: Drain (outside, south-east)

Frank: Spider nest in the small shed (outside, north-east, need Silverlight or Darklight if killing the spiders)

Identify which location *was not* actually treated with poison. The child associated with this location is your primary suspect.

Gathering Physical Evidence

If you haven't already, go to the evidence room (easternmost room, ground floor).

Pick up the Criminal's dagger.

Investigate the smashed window to obtain the Criminal's thread. Note the colour of the thread.

Find the barrel belonging to the suspect whose clothing matches the thread colour:

Anna (Grey): Upstairs, south-west room

Bob (Yellow): Upstairs, north-west room

Carol (Green): Upstairs, north-east room

David (Orange): Ground floor, north-west room (servants' quarters)

Elizabeth (Blue): Upstairs, south-east room

Frank (Red): Ground floor, south-west room (servants' quarters)

Search the correct barrel to find a specific item belonging to the suspect (e.g., Locket, Letter, Necklace, Map, Scroll, Note).

Fingerprinting

Go to the room just west of the kitchen (pantry).

Search the sacks to find Flypaper (obtain at least two).

Go to the kitchen.

Use your empty Pot on the Barrel of flour to get a Pot of flour.

Use the Pot of flour on the Criminal's dagger.

Use the flour-dusted dagger on a piece of Flypaper. You receive the Unknown print.

Use the Pot of flour on the item you found in the suspect's barrel.

Use the flour-dusted item on another piece of Flypaper. You receive the Culprit's print.

Use the Unknown print on the Culprit's print to confirm they match.

Accusation and Completion

Return to the guard at the mansion entrance.

Tell him you know who the murderer is and have evidence.

Hand over the evidence (matched prints, thread, dagger, pot) when prompted.

The guard will thank you and place the culprit under house arrest.
